Women's Stress Control

Women seem to be the ones who get the most … the most tired, most stressed, most overwhelmed, most wore out. We search for ways to lose weight, stop smoking, have more energy, be happier, as well as more loving and more tranquil. Quite coincidentally, we seem to be getting just the opposite.

Why is this?

Do we not know how to manage our time? Are we overbooked and overworked? Are we over-using the word yes when we need to be saying no?

How did we get into this kind of mess, this lifestyle, where everything else appears to be in control of us? Even more importantly, how do we change it? Some of you may even wonder “Change what?” because there maybe so much to change or we do not know exactly what change to make first.

There is a way to do that change which when the change is made, creates a happier, healthier life for you and for others who come into your life.

The first way is to change how we think – or just stop to think. As you perhaps may already know, our thoughts come into our minds. Our conscious minds use five of the six senses namely those of sight, smell, taste, touch and hearing. Our conscious minds can think and reason which is why it is said that the thoughts you choose are what results appear in your life.

The conscious mind can accept or reject a thought - not so our subconscious mind. It cannot reject – only accept what it is given. If a positive thought is given to it; it brings positive results – likewise if it is a negative thought that is received by it, our life seems to go into a tailspin. Part of this is based on our past experiences. If a thought connects to a negative brain cell experience, it results in that and the same for a happy experience. The other thing that comes into play here is when a habit is repeated often enough it will become automatic and require little or no thought just like taking a breath.

To illustrate this let me create an example. If as a child you tried to make breakfast for your parents by yourself but in the process you cut your thumb on the sharp knife. Your parents heard you cry out. That frightened them. As a result, they shouted at you and may have told you not to do that ever again. That could be the beginning of a negative experience. What experiences could you possibly recall from this? One might be that you wonder why you don’t like cooking. Another might be you feel insecure and doubtful about yourself or trying new things. Still another might be that you feel you can never do anything right. This might seem like a far-fetched example but over time and more of life’s experiences one of those could be what results.

Think about it – why do we eat when we are not hungry? Or, why do we smoke when we know it isn’t a good healthy thing for us? Why do we not nourish our bodies with good things mentally, emotionally and physically?

As women we seem to be on the lower rung of the ladder in some areas of our lives. Hypnosis can work a very dramatic change for us. It can help change our lifestyle and habits into something we would enjoy, actively participate in and be happy about.

How Hypnosis Works


You have promised yourself you'll improve your life. You've promised to lose weight, quit smoking, sleep better or make more money. You've even taken the first steps.

Then you fall right back into your old, unwanted behaviors.

Why is this?

Breaking your promises to yourself is a glaring illustration of the enormous gap between what you want for yourself and what you are able to actually produce.

If you’re overweight, you resolve to change our diet and exercise patterns. If you smoke, you know you ought to quit – right now! If you’re in debt, you tell yourself that you should control your spending. If you’re argumentative, you strive to be more calm and polite.

Yes, finding areas of your life that need improvement is easy as pie.

Even your good friends and close relatives are able to spot your imperfections and tell you exactly what you need to do to shape up.

So, OK, you get it, but why don’t you do it? Why do you go on repeating your mistakes over and over again?

Short answer: Because you don’t know how to stop.

The mind, and its little three-pound engine, the brain, is a buzzing basket of brilliance. Nerve cells fire, chemicals surge, sparks of genius flash and unfettered emotions tingle up and down our spines. The entire body is a symphony of complex creativity.

Unfortunately, the conductor can’t read music and this causes problems by the score!

Let’s do a little science. Your brain is organized into modules of activity. Whenever you see a fish, for example, your brain run the same pattern of recognition and your conscious mind registers “fish”. You are aware (“conscious”) of only a tiny fraction of this mental activity, as most “programs” run unmonitored in the background, out of awareness (“unconscious”). Breathing, for insrtance. You do it without thinking.

As an example, suppose you decide it’s finally time to stop smoking.



In your conscious mind you run a program that evaluates risk versus benefit and smoking comes out "off-the-scale" dangerous.

Meanwhile, back at the hippocampus (a part of your brain - not a school for hippos!), there is another program running and it is out of your awareness. It’s a very powerful program, elegant in its simplicity. It goes, “I want a cigarette, I want a cigarette, I want a cigarette.” It does this over and over again, out of your conscious awareness.

This automatic program, first generated when you were a rebellious teen looking for a way to be cool, runs on a hair-trigger. If you see someone light up, hear the coffee pot percolating, sip on a beer or just get out of bed in the morning, the darned thing is going to fire off.

What’s more, this program has become wired directly to your hands, so before your conscious mind can say, “what the …”, your fingers are wrapped around a match and you’re puffing like mad on a cancer stick.

And, where is your little maestro during all this? He’s striking up the band in a rousing but futile rendition of “All You Need Is Will Power”. Totally useless!

Here’s the bottom line: as long as the “I want a cigarette” program is running in the background, you will continue to smoke. Shut down the program (there are a number of ways to do this – some easy, some not so easy) and you will stop smoking. Guaranteed!

What The Hypnosis Education Center Does

Most Oklahomans are overworked, overwrought and over-the-top stressed out! We end up with unhealthy habits, too little relaxation and not enough sleep. Does any of this sound like you? If so, Richard Eyer Smith and his wife Catherine Smith say they can help. The Oklahoma City couple has developed a hypnosis practice based on their mission to help people find their “inspired self” through individual and group hypnosis training.
